Job Description
Enrollment Management (EM) is a multi-unit department within the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs. The department is led by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management (AVC EM), who serves as the Chief Enrollment Officer and Chief Outreach Officer of the University. EM comprises multiple high-profile, core functional units including: the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid & Scholarships Office, Cal-SOAP, Creative Services, Enrollment Analytics, and the Business Office. We work to advance the academic and public service missions of UC San Diego by ensuring equitable access to education and empowering students throughout their educational journeys.The Office of Undergraduate Admissions leads the university's efforts to identify, recruit, admit and enroll the next generation of UC San Diego Tritons with particular focus on talented, academically capable, California students, representative of the diversity of the people of California. The mission of the office includes increasing the visibility of UC San Diego in California, the nation and world, through marketing and on- and off- campus recruitment activities to prospective first-year and transfer students and their families; school counselors; community college leaders and advisors; community based organizations; and educational organizations serving groups historically underrepresented on our campus. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions hosts more than 80,000 visitors and receives, processes, and reviews over 150,000 applications for admission annually. The office works collaboratively with on-and off- campus partners to achieve university goals.The Office of Admissions is seeking seasonal application readers for October 2024 -March 2025.By joining UC San Diego’s Office of Admissions as a seasonal application reader, you'll be part of a team that reviews over 150,000 applications for admissions annually, contributing to our mission of providing equitable access to education. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact, with an expected contribution of 1,000 applications per cycle while not exceeding 5,000 applications. This position requires attention to detail, objectivity, flexibility, and the ability to work and manage your time independently. External readers are expected to perform with a high level of integrity and will use professional judgment and comprehensive knowledge of educational processes gained through training sessions led by the Office of Admissions. External readers will be partnered with admissions staff for training and the duration of the reading period. External readers must be able to balance reading applications thoroughly while under the time-constraints of having a large applicant pool. External readers are required to attend a full-day (9am-4pm, PST) virtual training session on either: 11/13, 11/16, or 11/19. Active participation (camera on) is mandatory. This position has an expected duration of (a maximum) 150 calendar days, encompassing the first-year admissions cycle. While this role is fully remote, employees must complete all work within the United States. External readers must read exclusively for UC San Diego. Current UC San Diego employees, retirees, and currently enrolled undergraduate students are not eligible for this position. Compensation for domestic readers is $3.00 per application (10/01/2024 - 03/31/2025), including applications read during training, payable via UC San Diego payroll and schedule. Live reading starts in early December. Domestic readers receive a lump sum of $371, which includes $163 for UC Learning Mandatory Training, $156 for live training, and $52 for training modules to be completed prior to live training.
Compensation for international readers is $3.75 per application (10/01/2024 - 03/31/2025), including those read during training, payable via UC San Diego payroll procedures and schedule. The live read starts in December. International readers receive a lump sum of $397, which includes $163 for UC Learning Mandatory Training, $156 for live training, $78 for training modules to be completed prior to live training.
Please note, if you are selected to read international applications, you cannot switch to domestic. If not chosen for international, you will remain a domestic reader.
We expect a high volume of applications for external reader positions, making the selection process extremely competitive. Qualifications include:
A bachelor’s degree Minimum of 2-3 years of work experience post-degree (or current enrollment in Graduate degree program)
Experience or employment in education or a related fields (such as Community Based Organizations)
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality of applications. Materials cannot be copied, published, or posted. Individual cases cannot be discussed with non-UC San Diego readers
Experience in effectively using robust web-based and/or networked applications to effectively input, access, and analyze information critical to the daily functioning of the work environment.
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Knowledge and experience using standard computing tools including Microsoft Office applications, on-line databases, email, and web-based research tools United States work authorization
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST:
Commit to read the minimum number of applications (1,000), if not exceed it
Commit to only read applications for UC San Diego
Commit to attend and participate in designated training on either 11/13, 11/16, or 11/19 (9am-4pm, PST). This includes the ability to read student applications online, having access to necessary equipment (desktop/laptop), and secure internet. You are not able to use a tablet. UC San Diego will not provide a computer.
