FREELANCE REPORTER
Remote Payload is the leading media brand covering the business and policy of space. Our goal is to provide the best analysis and coverage of the space industry for investors, founders, engineers, scientists, and policymakers.
THE ROLE
We’re seeking to bring onboard a couple freelancers to regularly contribute stories to Payload’s newsletter and website. This role is ideal for an entrepreneurial journalist with some knowledge of the space industry.
Salary:
$100 for a typical newsletter story (~300 words), $200 for a longer, web-first story (~600 words.) Most stories will be in the 300-word range and will run in full in the newsletter.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Pitch about one story a week to Payload’s managing editor
- Write for Payload’s newsletters and website
- We’re looking for one story a week from these freelancers in the first quarter of 2025, but hoping this will become a long term relationship with less frequent contributions beyond that.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has journalism experience
- Has an eye for detail and checks facts meticulously
- Has the ability to generate and pitch story ideas on space and business
- Can write quick, clean, accurate copy on deadline Is comfortable with, or willing to learn, Payload’s signature writing style
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5 – 10 per week
