Headquartered in Carmel, VisionFirst is the largest eye bank in the state of Indiana and provides a full range of transplant services throughout the state, across the nation, and internationally. It follows medical standards set forth by the Eye Bank Association of America, as well as regulations established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
VisionFirst is a non-profit corporation committed to the restoration of sight and the relief of human suffering. Since 1959, VisionFirst has restored vision to over 30,000 individuals who have suffered from corneal blindness as a result of injury or disease. As the primary supplier of corneal tissue in Indiana, VisionFirst provides over 2000 corneas for transplant annually. VisionFirst also furnishes tissue for education and research in the treatment of corneal disease, glaucoma, retinal disorders, and other forms of blindness.

As a Family Services Specialist, your job focus is centered on discussing donation with potential donor families. Your primary responsibilities include:
- Collect patient information from hospital staff, coroners, and/or partner agencies to facilitate donation.
- Discuss donation options with grieving families.
- Conduct a medical and social assessment interview with donor families.
- Complete real-time data entry.
- Triage incoming calls received through the answering service.
Requirements:
To be considered a qualified candidate, you should:
- Possess a bachelor’s degree or have equivalent work experience in an allied healthcare field.
- Willing to work one day shift and one night shift per week.
- Demonstrates computer proficiency.
- Must be accurate with data input.
- Possess excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to exercise tact and represent the organization in a professional manner at all times.
- Communicate clearly and concisely in written form.
- Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with a variety of people and personalities, and ability to embrace diversity.
- Be able to articulate ideas/information clearly and accurately in written communication.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality related to business and customer operations along with any donor related items.
- Must be able to analyze, plan, and execute complex situations.
- Be able to handle all representative duties with little to no supervision.
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
