Summary
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Sr. Strategic Operations Officer will lead the annual design of Worldreader’s work plan and align strategies to meet our 2030 targets. This role demands a commitment to cross-organizational collaboration to foster a culture of trust, knowledge sharing, and impactful service delivery.
This is a full-time remote position based in Atlanta, Georgia, Virginia, or Maryland.
Duties/Responsibilities
Strategic Responsibilities
- Lead overall strategic planning and service delivery in coordination with the CEO and Leadership Team.
- Oversee the annual work plan and reporting towards achieving Worldreader’s strategy.
- Determine, collect, and disseminate key indicators aligned with the BookSmart experience.
- Support monthly reporting to all boards.
- Act as a thought partner internally to the CEO, coordinating knowledge and information exchange across geographies.
- Represent Worldreader globally externally with partners, donors, and stakeholders, establishing the organization as an innovative thought leader.
- Provide strong day-to-day leadership presence.
Functional Responsibilities
- Sync with design and delivery departments, including content, product, tech, and our programs in Kenya and the US in alignment with development.
- Coordinate company meetings and lead strategic planning, ensuring leadership meetings and functional standups run smoothly.
- Facilitate routine research, benchmarking, data analysis, and provide recommendations.
- Oversee large, cross-functional, organization-wide projects and initiatives, bringing together key stakeholders to drive results.
- Act as a "culture whisperer," serving as a trusted confidant and assisting in decision-making.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to lead strategy development processes inclusive of partnership integration.
- Ability to guide a variety of management styles and roles.
- Successful track record in fiscal management and budget administration.
- Excellent writing and clear communication skills.
- Ability to adjust to different time zones of Worldreader’s global presence, with staff in India, East and West Africa, Europe, and across the United States.
- Strong commitment to Worldreader's mission and values.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Ten (10+) years of experience as a senior leader within an international NGO or agency.
- Previous experience in a start-up setting or the proven ability to effectively operate in a start-up culture.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
Salary
Base salary
$80,000 - $120,000/yr
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
