The Director, US Customs Compliance is a newly created role that will be a key leader in the development of our organization’s ‘best-in-class’ import compliance program with annual volumes of 20k containers and $100MM spend.
We are open to the right candidate being primarily remote, with the expectation that as necessary they can travel into the home office in CT.

Job Responsibilities

Manage relationships and performance of our Customs Brokers. Conduct quarterly business reviews (“QBR”) with each provider
-
Develop and direct the standard processes and data governance policies within the Import department
-
Manage the liaison between regulatory bodies, trade partners and relevant internal departments; by providing them with best-in-class customs information and advisory services
-
Ensure all import procedures are in compliance with import/customs regulations
-
Undertake continuous analysis of the regulatory environment, with particular regard to trade tariffs/duties and trade restrictions/requirements, and communicating them in a clear and concise way to other departments within the company

Guide the day-to-day activities of the Customs & Import teams & provide overall long-term planning

Lead Distribution Operations, Merchandising, & Finance teams in regards to customs & import legal & international social compliance

Provide cross-functional (e.g., Finance, Accounting, Contracts, Business Development, etc.) support on new business opportunities to ensure regulatory requirements are met

Conduct site visits to maintain relationships, provide hands-on regulatory training, and provide compliance oversight
-
Facilitate review meetings with governmental agencies (e.g., Customs and Border Protection, etc.) to maintain relationships, obtain resolution to specific issues, and clarify requirements

Participate in industry associations and regulatory and security groups to gain industry knowledge, establish relationships, and promote the UPS brand

Provide feedback to governmental agencies on proposed rules to favorably impact changes and clarify regulatory interpretations

Facilitate workshops, prepares new training tools, and provides one-on-one training to ensure compliance standards and performance targets are met
Required Qualifications
-
5+ years in Import Customs roles
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or Operations
-
Experience managing relationships and the performance of US Customs House Brokers and truckers
-
Experience in Retail industry
-
Experience managing relationships with Ports, Trucking & Ocean Carriers

Ability to lead cross-functional, organization-wide projects
-
Ability to multi-task between managing projects and supporting operations
-
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills—collaborative, team player at all levels

Strong skills in MS Excel
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience using MS Access preferred, but not required

Knowledge in a variety of areas in regards to supply chain
Expected Base Pay Not Including Potential Commissions, Incentive, Bonus, etc. Opportunities:
100-165k base salary
