Role Overview
AGL is seeking an accomplished and proactive Import/Export Manager to lead our freight forwarding operations into a new era of efficiency and excellence. Reporting directly to the company owner, this position is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for managing a team of six professionals across Air, Ocean Documentation, Ocean Operations, and Pricing.
The Import/Export Manager will serve as the operational heartbeat of the organization, transforming workflows, driving accountability, and building a culture of collaboration. Initially, the focus will be on hands-on management to optimize day-to-day operations, with a long-term transition toward strategic planning as the team and processes stabilize.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Excellence
- Direct and oversee daily freight forwarding operations to ensure seamless execution of air and ocean exports.
- Establish and enforce comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to standardize workflows, minimize errors, and ensure compliance with international trade regulations.
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex issues, providing guidance and decisive problem-solving to resolve operational bottlenecks.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead a team of six professionals across Air, Ocean Documentation, Ocean Operations, and Pricing, ensuring alignment with company goals.
- Provide mentorship, training, and corrective guidance to enhance individual and team performance.
- Foster a collaborative culture where team members understand their roles within the workflow and actively support one another.
Strategic Planning and Metrics
- Develop and implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure individual, departmental, and company-wide success.
- Provide bi-weekly performance updates to the company owner, delivering actionable insights and recommendations.
- Contribute to long-term growth strategies, including scaling operations and replicating successful models for future office expansions.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with clients, carriers, customs brokers, and other stakeholders as needed, particularly in escalation scenarios or during periods of high demand.
- Ensure that client expectations are consistently exceeded, enhancing AGL’s reputation as a trusted partner in global logistics.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Skills and Experience
- A minimum of 10 years in international freight forwarding, with expertise in managing time-sensitive, high-urgency cargo.
- Proven experience in team leadership, process optimization, and operational transformation.
- Strong knowledge of TMS platforms (Descartes preferred), Microsoft Teams, and collaborative tools for file sharing and tracking.
