Position Summary
To provide language services: interpretation, translation, transcription services on-site, over-the-phone, and video-remote for Limited English-Proficient (LEP) clients and professional English-speaking service providers.
As a Translator/Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication between individuals who speak different languages. This position requires strong linguistic skills and the ability to accurately interpret and translate spoken and written language.
This is performed in a collage of community settings to facilitate effective communication in human need areas of real importance. Cultural competency and kindness are essentials required from the ideal candidate to represent our brand.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Translate written documents, such as reports, contracts, and correspondence
- Provide consecutive interpretation as needed in a variety of settings
- Providing simultaneous interpreting/conference style is a bonus and paid more for highly experienced linguists at 1WT
- Adapt language and terminology to maintain the integrity of the original message
- Assist with cultural understanding and sensitivity when working with diverse populations
- Demonstrate English and at least a second language fluency, comprehension and interpreting or translation (document to document) ability.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA standards for client confidentiality (Education availability)
- Perform interpretation/translation service in person/on-site or via remote means (phone/video) as a professional and per the industry code of ethics.
- Records and compiles daily interpreter encounters reliably by submitting a Request Form within 24 hours daily and on time. This is critical for paying the interpreter, the company.
- The on-site work is not at our office, but at various customer locations: This is completely at the linguists' choice! All assignments must be completed with unfailing punctuality for all interpreting assignments.
- Has a quiet home space for phone/video interpreting per standards with adequate high-speed internet bandwidth for quality signal transmission for remote calls.
- Performs duties related to interpreting per the National/International Standards Codes of Ethics; with punctuality, professionalism, impartiality, respect, cultural competency, appropriate advocacy and accuracy.
Salary
- The hourly salary posted is for assignments for professional Independent Contractor work for 1hr minimum on-site appts. for Medical/General/School appts.
- We also offer legal interpreting at higher rates, depending on your qualifications and whether you are Court-Certified.
- We also offer work locally for Phone and Video Interpreting in your own home at similar rates as the onsite rate; though no time lost in traveling. Phone/Video. Those rates are offered at a per-minute rate.
- We also provide auxiliary services like Project Management, Transcription Services in English/other languages, Voice-Over work, Multi-lingual Video services and Translation: the latter with a higher education credentials set required. Please indicate any qualification/interest in such areas when you contact us!
- We are in special need of Vietnamese, Nepali, Amharic and Burmese Interpreters at this time. Requirements
- At least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED Certificate, but we prefer an AA degree and higher.
- No out-of-country applicants, Please. We prefer American dialects and the convenience of staying within the communication networks of the USA.
- Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation, working computer, headphones for remote work, high-speed internet, camera, and a cellphone.
- Prefer certificates of completion of 40/60/64 hr Professional Interpreting courses or a degree in interpreting-translation since this is the new basic industry standard.
- If none, we offer courses at a reasonable/lowest rate and with the highest credentialed Instructor for Medical Interpreting for local people only with extensive experience. Courses can be taken anywhere, however.
- Flexibility to take assignments during regular business hours (7am to 7pm after hours and weekend work optional) is ideal; but you accept work that works for you!
- Provide and maintain acceptable criminal, background, and DMV records.

- Excellent interpersonal skills in multiple languages
- Ability to read, write, learn quickly

Credentials - Optional Since we have an in-house education program
- Bridging the Gap & MiTIO: Medical Interpreter training- Preferred.
- The Community Interpreter training is accepted, as well as degrees in the field.
- Other certificates may be accepted: just inquire.
- **90% of our medical clients are private and not Worker's Compensation Clients: so a National Certification/CMI/CCHI/NBCMI is NOT required.
- National Certification is preferred: CCHI, NBCMI
- 2- or 4-year degree in Interpretation/Translation preferred
- Previous interpretation/translation experience preferred
**Those applicants completing the "Suggested Assessment" will get priority attention over applicants who do not complete any of the assessment screening tests.
